The Duke Feast

The Duke Feast (“La festa del Duca”) started in 1982 to celebrate the centenary of the Duke Federico da Montefeltro’s death. The old glory of Urbino are remembered around the Duke palace with musicians, acrobats, jugglers and dancers, which are followed by ability contests of flag bearers, drummers and crossbowmen. The entire historical center of Urbino turn back in Renaissance time for three days to spends between artisans, markets and themed workshops. As tradition, the Duke will be remembered through the old music, theater, dance, exhibitions and the Shakespeare film festival center organized by Mario Monicelli. During the festival, the parade offers every year a different event of the Duchy and you can even assist to two main tournaments: the archers’ tournament and knights’ tournament with the participation of all the knights of the city. This is a Renaissance court tournament during which, Federico lost his right eye in the 1450. Saturday night is party time with “The Night of the Duke”, which is celebrated in the square, while among the streets of Urbino, other people play Treasure Hunting until the early hours of the next day. The festival close Sunday with fireworks in the Borgo Mercatale area.
